With the Sun conjunct Mercury in Aries there isn’t much beating around the bush when it comes to putting our point across. In fact if you’ve been biding your time, waiting for the right words and the right moment to say what needs to be said then you may find that caution goes out the window now. Aries is not known for tact or diplomacy and you might simply open your mouth and let fly with very little thought for the possible fall out.
Fortunately Sun conjunct Mercury is making a lovely trine to Aries’ ruler Mars in Sagittarius so this may buffer the impact somewhat, however it’s still wise to consciously treat those around us with gentleness during this time. If we don’t take care we may find ourselves with more than a little mess to clean up by the end of the week!
There isn’t much that’s gentle about the Sun conjunct Mercury in Aires; for this we’ll need to rely on Venus and Neptune in Pisces. However with all our Piscean planets currently caught up in a complex configuration of indecisive squares and oppositions with planets in mutable signs we probably won’t get much support from this quarter. In fact we may have to look closely at how our softly, softly approach to others may be allowing them to take advantage of us.
Venus is currently creeping up to join Chiron on the Piscean South Node so we’ll probably be exploring issues around boundaries in relationships, especially as both are still in wide square aspect to Saturn. Saturn turned retrograde yesterday, a shift that will put us all into a mode of consolidation, and this is also a time for setting firmer boundaries and in particularly learning to say no. Enter Sun conjunct Mercury in Aries: how perfectly timed the cosmic patterns can be!
It’s important to remember that Sun conjunct Mercury in Aries can sometimes take you too far. Instead of simply asserting yourself and setting healthy boundaries you end up pushing your ideas down someone’s throat and making them feel violated by your overly aggressive approach. Watch yourself that the energy of Aries does not overwhelm your sense of fairness and respect for the needs of others.
Sun conjunct Mercury isn’t just about how we communicate, it also affects the way we think about life and how we approach the awesome task of manifesting our destiny. It’s a courageous, creative energy, ready for anything. It can provide a real boost to the business of getting things done, shifting stuck patterns and asserting our right to be our own unique and powerful selves.
Sun conjunct Mercury is already past its exact point but we’ll be feeling its energy until at least the end of the month. So make the most of it!
How will Sun conjunct Mercury in Aries affect you?
Sun conjunct Mercury will affect you in a strongly positive way if you have natal planets or points between 6 and 15 degrees of the Fire signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius). Those with planets or points between 6 and 15 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) will also feel this transit strongly but they are more likely to feel the antisocial and difficult qualities of this combination.
If your chart is triggered, look to see in which house the Sun and Mercury are located. For example in my chart Sun conjunct Mercury is occurring in my 10th House, widely square my natal Venus. This suggests a time where I need to communicate assertively within the sphere of my vocation and the outer expression of myself may become more feisty and less tolerant of making compromises with others.
Meanwhile in another part of the cosmos…
The mutable t-square between Chiron and Venus on the South Node in Pisces, Jupiter on the North Node in Virgo and retrograde Saturn in Sagittarius is probably causing many of you to feel a little out of whack, especially in the relationship department. Venus in Pisces is happy to give everything, to dissolve into the other but Saturn is having none of it. Retaining a sense of self is crucial, and we must be very clear with others about how far we are willing to go.
A brief trine from the Moon to Neptune (exact yesterday) is softening the energy of the t-square and brings in both compassion and gentleness. Remember that setting boundaries isn’t about hurting or depriving those we love. When we set boundaries firmly but gently we demonstrate to others the self respect that sets the bar for how they will treat us in future.
Further support comes from Pluto in determined Capricorn, offsetting the nodal opposition with a sextile to Venus and a trine to Jupiter. These aspects will certainly strengthen our will and help open up possibilities for connecting in healthier ways with those around us. However be aware that an applying square from Mars in Sagittarius to Neptune in Pisces may make us a little lazy and indecisive over the coming few days.
