Full Moon in Leo: permission to shine

Full moon in Leo Image author unknown

This month’s full moon in Leo will fall either on 3rd or 4th February, depending on where in the world you are. With a conjunction to Jupiter this full moon in Leo offers us the opportunity to open ourselves up to creative self-expression, sharing, adventure and just a little bit of drama. The good kind of course!

This full moon in Leo is about abundance

With the full Moon in Leo conjunct Jupiter you may find yourself experiencing spontaneously arising gestures of generosity, especially when it comes to those less fortunate than yourself. With Venus in Pisces, and currently conjunct Pisces’ ruler Neptune, compassion and empathy come easily. Don’t be surprised if you uncharacteristically empty your wallet when that man on the street reaches out to you for help. But don’t worry, Saturn is making a sextile to Neptune and Mercury, steadying our minds and ensuring we don’t make any rash decisions!

Giving and receiving go hand in hand, therefore the other side of Jupiter is about allowing ourselves to open up to abundance. The key to this is gratitude. This full moon in Leo is working with Jupiter to teach us that abundance requires that we first give freely of what we have. That’s true gratitude and it open us up to abundance. An open heart allows a free flow of energy both inwards and outwards.

This full moon in Leo is about creativity

Leo teaches us that life is meant to be fun and creative. When the Full Moon in Leo teams up with Jupiter we get a boost of confidence in ourselves and in what you have to give the world. We realise that we don’t have to be shy about it. Shouting out our truth from the rooftops is not something we should be ashamed of. How will people know what you have to give if you don’t tell them? So many gifted artists, healers, writers and other talented folk create constantly but their work never sees the light of day. Don’t be one of them!

Where would we be if Buddha had said, ‘Wow, I can’t share this insight I have on the nature of reality because people might think I’m being egotistical.’ Or if Leonardo da Vinci had refused to show anyone the Mona Lisa because he couldn’t get the mouth the way he wanted it. Think about it: creativity is for sharing and creativity is ruled by Leo because we’re meant to share it with a loud roar of celebration! Not a wimpy little squeak.

Julia Cameron, author of one of my favourite books The Artist’s Way as well as many other inspirational books on creativity, continually reminds us of the relationship between sharing our creative gifts and abundance. Her ten basic principles of creativity could be a mantra for the creatively blocked:

1. Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy: pure creative energy.
2. There is an underlying, in-dwelling creative force infusing all of life – including ourselves.
3. When we open ourselves to our creativity, we open ourselves to the creator’s creativity within us and our lives.
4. We are, ourselves, creations. And we, in turn, are meant to continue creativity by being creative ourselves.
5. Creativity is God’s gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God.
6. The refusal to be creative is self-will and is counter to our true nature.
7. When we open ourselves to… our creativity, we open ourselves to God…
8. As we open our creative channel… many gentle but powerful changes are to be expected.
9. It is safe to open ourselves up to greater and greater creativity.
10. Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a divine source. As we move toward our dreams, we move toward our divinity.

Whether you believe in God, or identify with some other form of the divine, is unimportant. The principles remain the same.

This full moon is Leo isn’t just about the big acts of creativity either. In a sense you are your own greatest work of art and how you dress and express yourself has a lot to do with your confidence in revealing who you are to the world. If you’ve been wearing the same old outfits day-in-day-out maybe it’s time to try out that dapper new suit or gorgeous flowing red dress that you bought with such enthusiasm and then left languishing in the back of the cupboard.

This full moon in Leo also forms a lovely trine to Uranus. This means that the Sun is also sextile Uranus. With such a combination our creative actions during can manifest dramatic change in our lives. This is somewhat impeded by Uranus squaring Pluto and opposing the North Node, aspects which are still very much in affect! Will it ever end? Yes! By embracing the energy of this full moon in Leo we give ourselves permission to shine with love, creativity and confidence. Our openness to life and our generosity in sharing our gifts allows true abundance to flow into our lives.
