Depending on where in the world you happen to be, the upcoming New Moon in Aquarius will occur on 18th or 19th February. This is the second New Moon in Aquarius for 2015, a rare occurrence that places February’s New Moon right on the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces. In fact, the Moon enters Pisces 10 seconds after its birth at 29°59′ Aquarius! The Sun follows close behind, moving into Pisces two minutes later.
As with all New Moons there is an emphasis on new beginnings. This is therefore a powerful time to work with the combined energies of Aquarius and Pisces to catalyse your own and others spiritual awakening. The energy of Pisces is further emphasised by aspect, as both the Sun and Moon are conjunct Pisces’ ruler Neptune.
Astrologer Benjamin Bernstein describes the union of these two energies beautifully: “Aquarius and Pisces both represent intuition. Aquarian intuition is like a lightning strike, while Piscean intuition is like a waterfall. So follow your inner guidance, whether it flashes or flows. These signs’ energies can also combine to energize spiritual awakening, creative breakthroughs, and compassion and unconditional love within community.”
The revolutionary force of the New Moon in Aquarius, deepened by the spiritual energy of Pisces, is given a serious boost by a Yod formation between Jupiter, Chiron and Pluto. This brings together the energies of expansion, healing and transformation and denotes a powerful time to take action in these areas. The Yod begins on 11th February, peaks on the 22nd and moves out of aspect on 3rd March.
How will the New Moon in Aquarius affect me personally?
To gain insight into how this New Moon in Aquarius will affect you personally it’s important to look at where it falls in your chart. Look particularly for any natal planets that may be aspected. Natal planets that fall on the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces will be particularly energised and signify the beginning of something new in the area of life ruled by that planet.
Look also to see in which house the New Moon in Aquarius falls in your chart. For example, in my natal chart the New Moon in Aquarius falls in my 9th House of higher education and travel. This makes me hopeful that our long delayed trip home to Australia may be on the cards!
The New Moon in Aquarius is a good time to consider whether you are being true to yourself. Are you fully expressing your own uniqueness, or are you held back by fears of social censure or your own self-imposed inhibitions? Aquarius is the sign of freedom and individuality. It demands authenticity and cannot tolerate follow-the-leader behaviour that conforms blindly to social expectations.
But beware being a rebel without a cause. Observe yourself and avoid both extremes: stifling your individuality under pressure to conform, and needing to be different in order to feel special and worthwhile. Rebelling in order to get attention or love is not a positive manifestation of Aquarian energy. The healthy expression of Aquarius is the archetype of the revolutionary, focused on social responsibility, community and global brotherhood.
